It was a busy Thursday for Norwalk spring sports as five teams were scheduled to compete.

Boys Track wins 5 events at Northwest

The Norwalk boys track and field team won five events against excellent competition at the Waukee Northwest Relays. Team scores were not kept on the night. Logan Atherton took home a pair of golds in the high jump and the long jump while Daniel Roche ran a personal-best time of 1:57.44 to win the open 800. The Warriors also won the 4×800 relay with Tony Anania, Sam Buhrow, Aksel Beedon and Lane Osterloh, as well as the 4×400 relay with AJ Mosqueda, Grant Wallace, Cam Thomas and Tim Koerselman.

Kaiden Kunze placed second in the long jump and Sam Parker clocked a ‘PR’ of 4:27.71 to place second in the mile. Harrison Tripp placed third in the shot put with a personal best of 49 feet, 7 inches and Jamison Giesemann was third in the 100 dash with a ‘PR’ of 11.21.

Girls Track 8th at Waukee

The Norwalk girls track and field squad finished eighth out of 10 teams at the Waukee Invite, scoring 34.33 points. Freshman Elle Hatlevig had the Warriors’ top finish, tying for second place in the high jump with a leap of four feet, 10 inches. The distance medley relay team of Mary Bush, Kinzie Giesemann, Ava Carlson and Grace DeRocher placed third with a season-best time of 4:35.39. Norwalk placed fourth in the 4×800 and fifth in the shuttle hurdle relay.

Boys Soccer falls 1-0

The Class 3A fourth-ranked Norwalk boys soccer team lost a 1-0 decision at 4A eighth-ranked Des Moines Lincoln. The Warriors dropped to 4-4-2 overall, suffering their third consecutive 1-0 loss to a ranked 4A opponent. Norwalk outshot Lincoln 5-3 but could not take advantage of some early scoring opportunities. Tavin Ferner led the team with two shots on goal and goalie Jacoby Robbins made two saves. The Warriors will face another ranked 4A foe on Saturday at Ames, taking on the third-ranked Little Cyclones at 5:30.

Tennis meets rained out

The Norwalk girls tennis team held a 4-0 lead at Oskaloosa when rain suspended the meet. Ivanna Sherstiuk, Leah Black, Logan Geisler and Kierdyn Stockwell all won in singles play for the Warriors, who will host Urbandale today at 2:00 p.m.

The Norwalk boys tennis team’s dual vs. Oskaloosa was also rained out.
