Indianola defeated Norwalk 5-3 in the opening round of Class 2A Girls Tennis Team Regional play on Friday morning.

The Warren County rivals split their six singles matches. Winning in straight sets for Indianola were Zoey Belt at No. 2 singles, Maci Lerseth at No. 3 and Chloe Chaplin at No. 6. Norwalk got wins from Ivanna Sherstiuk at No. 1 singles, Logan Geisler at No. 4 and Kierdyn Stockwell at No. 5. Geisler and Stockwell both dropped their first set but rallied back to win in a third-set tiebreaker.

The dual came down to doubles play, where Indianola took control. The No. 2 team of Lerseth and Lauren Danielson won 6-1, 6-1 and the No. 3 duo of Paige Dahl and Chaplin prevailed 6-2, 6-2 to end the dual.

Norwalk ends their season with a 5-5 overall record. Indianola improves to 6-5 and will now play at West Des Moines Valley on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.
