Despite less than ideal weather conditions, the Pella Christian boys golf team dominated their Class 2A District Meet at Bos Landen Golf Course Monday to qualify for the State Meet for the third consecutive season.

Battling the cold, wet, and windy conditions on their home course, the Eagles shot a 319 as a team, besting second place PCM by 24 strokes. In addition to winning the meet as a team, Pella Christian had the top three finishers in the individual standings, which featured 62 golfers. Eliot Menninga led the way for the Eagles, claiming the District Meet Medalist honors with a 76, followed by Cooper Spronk in second with a 77 and Deacon Branderhorst in third with an 80. Rounding out the team scoring for Pella Christian was Connor VanZee, who took 15th place with an 86. Completing the varsity lineup for the Eagles on the day was Landon Fransman and Carter Brand, who shot a 93 and 95 respectively. Branderhorst said that qualifying for State was the best way to celebrate his 19th birthday, which was also on Monday.

“I think this is the best birthday present I could get, being able to celebrate with these guys and my golf team, they’re my best friends and I’m super excited to be able to go back to State with them and we’re hunting for a State Title.”

The Pella Christian boys golf team will compete for the State Title next Tuesday and Wednesday at Gates Park Golf Course in Waterloo. Hear from the State Qualifying Eagles boys golf team on Today’s Lely Radio Sports Page.
