The City of Knoxville is hoping to start construction on their new public safety/city hall facility this fall.
The facility will be built off of Highway 14 at the site of the former Knoxville Middle School, which was recently demolished. The city acquired the land as part of a land swap with the Knoxville School District, which ensured that it would not affect tax payers. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery tells KNIA/KRLS that the city will be meeting with engineers and then a presentation about the project will be given at a city council meeting in June. The city will then go out for pre-bid and bid later this summer with construction expected to start late fall.
As part of the land swap, the school district received approximately ten acres of land in the Veterans District which could be a potential site of a new elementary school.
