A Sully woman who pleaded guilty to insurance fraud in an attempt to help her teenage son has been sentenced. Jasper County District Court documents state 47-year-old Antonia Leah Maddison intended to defraud Progressive Northern Insurance Company by applying for insurance on her son and his vehicle, after he had an accident. Maddison received a five-year suspended prison sentence and three years of probation. She was also fined just over $1,000. The accident occurred on February 24th of last year, and the Iowa Insurance Fraud Bureau says Maddison added her son and his vehicle to her insurance policy four days later, in an attempt to obtain coverage for his accident. The Bureau filed the class D felony charge on September 12th, 2024. District Associate Judge Steven Holwerda accepted Maddison’s guilty plea and was overseeing the sentencing hearing.
