Coming off a state tournament appearance in 2024, the PCM softball team will return almost their entire roster for the 2025 season.
The Mustangs finished last season with a 25-5 overall record and won the conference with a 13-1 mark in league play. PCM defeated Clarinda 13-1 in their regional final game to punch their ticket to state for the first time in school history. At the state tournament the Mustangs lost their first game to Williamsburg, but came back and picked up their first state tournament win against Sumner-Fredericksburg. Head Coach Shaun Hudnut will bring back almost his entire team this year besides Lark Drake who was a key piece to the program’s success last year.
The Mustangs will return Libby Winters, Tori Lindsay, Lilian Humpal, and Addison Steenhoek who each batted over .295 and played 30 games. PCM will also return pitchers Rylee Parsons and Camden Webb who were a dangerous one-two punch last season combining for 177.3 innings of work. Webb who was an 8th grader had a 1.50 ERA and 81 strikeouts while Parsons the sophomore had a 1.21 ERA and 101 strikeouts. Hudnut tells KNIA/KRLS that going to state last season was a special experience.
“It was an awesome experience to go through. Our community support was fantastic. To see the cars lined up as far back as they were and the amount of people that came out to watch us play was appreciated by our coaching staff and the girls for sure. Overall it’s fun to make that claim that you’re the first team who was able to do that.”
The PCM softball team will open their 2025 season on Tuesday at West Marshall.
