A 66-year-old Newton man has been given a five year suspended prison sentence for pleading guilty to extortion, in a case involving nude photos. Newton Police arrested Garry Lynn Stoner last August after the victim came to the Police Department with text messages from Stoner. In those messages, court papers state Stoner threatened to sell nude photos of the woman if she doesn’t have sex with him. Police claim he also sent one of the photos to the victim. Extortion is a Class D Felony. District Associate Judge Steven Holwerda has placed Stoner on probation for three years, fined him $1,025, and ordered him to have no contact with the victim for five years. An additional charge of 1st degree harassment was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
