New playground equipment is being installed at Pella Christian Grade School, which will offer new safety features and more options to support enrollment growth.

The equipment will include activities that don’t require climbing, and allow for running, jumping, walking with crutches and rolling in a wheel chair. The new playground, which replaces the previous wood structure that had been at the school for over four decades, will also have a mobility-friendly safety surface with rubber mulch and a new retaining wall has been added. Pella Christian Head of Schools Dan Zylstra says that funding for the project came from their Help Us Soar campaign, and that the equipment should be installed before school starts in August.

“We’ve been fundraising for that for most of the school year and we’ve had some very generous donors that have given to make that happen. We still have a little bit to raise for that if anybody’s interested, but it’s happening earlier than we had thought. So, the work has already begun, and we’re hoping it’s maybe done before the middle of July.”
