The Jasper County Road Department says removal of the County Highway F-48 West pavement between Colfax and Interstate 80 will begin Monday. This work is part of the second phase of resurfacing Highway F-48 West from the west edge of Newton to the Polk County line. The first phase from Newton to the South Skunk River bridge just south of Interstate 80 was completed last August. The second phase covers 3.1 miles from the bridge to Iowa Highway 117 in Colfax. The Jasper County Road Department expects the road surface removal to be completed by Friday, weather permitting. This section of Highway F-48 West remains closed to thru-traffic, and local traffic should expect travel delays and driving on a rough surface until the pavement removal has been completed. InRoads LLC of Des Moines was awarded this resurfacing contract with a bid of $2.55 million. The Jasper County Road Department expects the project to be completed in November.
