The Little Hawkeye Conference softball game between Indianola and Newton that was suspended Monday night due to heavy rain will resume Monday, June 30th. The game was suspended in the fourth inning with the Indians leading the Cardinals 13-6, and will resume at 3 p.m. Monday in Newton. The baseball game between Indianola and Newton was also cut short by rain Monday. It was halted in the top of the sixth inning, and was an official game with five innings completed. The Indians won 2-1.

Newton’s baseball and softball games at Clarke Tuesday were also cancelled due to weather. The baseball game will be made up on Monday, July 7th, while the softball game will not be made up.

Tonight, the Cardinal baseball and softball teams return to Little Hawkeye Conference action playing doubleheaders at Dallas Center-Grimes. The baseball twin bill begins at 5 p.m. while the first softball game starts at 5:30 p.m. The Mustangs won both games in Newton on June 9th, with the baseball team getting an 11-1 victory in six innings and the softball team winning 17-0 in four innings. Dallas Center-Grimes baseball is 9-5 in conference play and 13-8 overall, while Newton’s record is 2-14 in the conference and 4-18 on the season. The #3 Class 4A Mustang softball team is 13-1 in Little Hawkeye Conference games and 22-2 overall. The Cardinals softball team has a 2-13 conference record, and stands 6-15 for the season.
