co-line-2024-1

TK Concrete of Pella has been awarded the contract for a 600-foot pavement extension of South 128th Avenue East on the Jasper/Mahaska County Line. The project is related to a $4.25 million expansion by Co-Line Manufacturing. The Jasper County Board of Supervisors accepted TK Concrete’s low bid of $221,696 for the tenth of a mile pavement extension. Jasper County Engineer Mike Frietsch was surprised to see the amount of interest the project received from potential contractors.

“We got eight bids on that little concrete job, shocking honestly. The interest in this project was just incredible to me.”

TK Concrete’s approved bid was 25% below Frietsch’s estimated cost, which was just over $292,000. A state rise grant will cover 50% of the cost, while Jasper and Mahaska Counties will split the other half. TK Concrete will have 30 working days to complete the project, with a construction timeline beginning in early August and ending in September. Once completed, the new pavement will extend past the new Co-Line facilities. The Lynnville Company’s expansion is expected to create at least 25 new jobs.
