A bridge replacement over Snipe Creek by the Marshall County Line northeast of Baxter is underway. The Jasper County Road Department says now through Friday, September 19th, North 115th Avenue West will be closed from East of West 20th Avenue North to Jessup Avenue in Marshall County.. No detour route is posted.
Jasper County Engineer Mike Frietsch says Jasper and Marshall County will equally split the cost to replace the over 100 year old bridge.
“The current bridge is a riveted pony truss bridge constructed in 1921. The estimated remaining life in 2023 was six years. But we really don’t want to hang on to our pony truss bridges much longer, so we will leave it at that.”
Frietsch says the new bridge will be an 80-foot single span steel beam bridge with a concrete deck. All the steel for the new North 115th Avenue West bridge, east of Jasper County Highway S-62, came from Oden Enterprises of Wahoo, Nebraska. The company submitted low bids totaling $194,542.
