The Newton Parks Department is working with the company that put in the city’s pickleball courts at Aurora Park to address some cracking that’s appeared. Newton City Administrator Matt Muckler says that not all four courts are affected.

“We found a little bit of cracking that’s not on the entire court surface, but on a couple of places on that court. Our Parks Department is working with the contractor to get that repaired. So we are in the process of making that repair, and certainly that makes us sensitive to doing the final coating correctly and when the temperature is right on the tennis courts, so we don’t have this problem in the future.”

In September of 2023, Minturn Incorporated of Brooklyn was awarded the contract to build the pickleball courts for $370,000, and the project was completed about a year later. The company is currently renovating the six tennis courts at Aurora Park, and adding two more. Additionally, the one million dollar project includes replacing the lights at the tennis courts with a new system that will also include lighting for the pickleball courts.
