It was another season to remember for the Norwalk High School softball team.

The Warriors didn’t quite reach their final goal of making it to the Class 4A championship game, but the team accomplishments over the past nine weeks are certainly impressive.

Led by their seven seniors, Norwalk finished 34-8 overall, extending the program’s string of 30-win seasons to four. The Warriors are 127-34 during that time frame.

For the third straight year, Norwalk shared the Little Hawkeye Conference title with Dallas Center-Grimes, going 16-2. The Warriors won two out of three in their season series vs. the Mustangs.

The 2nd-ranked Warriors also qualified for the State Softball Tournament for the fourth consecutive season, which follows a seven-year absence from 2015 to 2021. They lost to North Scott 7-1 in the 4A quarterfinals, but bounced back to win a consolation game vs. Western Dubuque 10-9.

Along the way, Norwalk blasted 50 home runs – 18 by Nyah Hulbert and 16 by Carly Brewer – batting .374 as a team and combining for an earned run average of 2.64. The Warriors finished with a 10-4 record against Class 5A competition and went 3-0 against 4A state finalist Pella, outscoring the Dutch 32-8. They also defeated 3A finalist Dubuque Wahlert.

Norwalk coach Beau Livingston tells KNIA Sports that there were highs and lows throughout the season, but he’s very proud of his team’s grit and perseverance. He noted that the Warriors lost two straight games on three occasions, but bounced back with a strong performance each time.
