The Martensdale-St. Mary’s baseball team will try for their first state baseball championship since 2012 tonight, as they take on St. Ansgar in the class 1A championship game. The Blue Devils have won games with two extremes on offense and pitching in the first two games, defeating Kee in the first round with a 2-0 shutout win, then defeating Hillcrest Academy scoring 18 runs and coming back from an 8-2 deficit. Junior Colton Wight has continued his stellar season at the plate, going a whopping 6-7 at the plate driving in three runs. Ace pitcher Travis Wright threw only 87 pitches in the opening round victory, which gives him enough rest time to pitch the championship game this evening. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30pm in Carroll.
