The Newton Community School District and the Newton Community Education Association have approved the final components of a new contract for the 2025-2026 school year. This week both sides agreed to reduce the length of the teacher contracts by one day, making them 195 day contracts. Laura Selover, the Director of Human Resources for the Newton School District, says updated Family Medical Leave Act guidelines and an Unpaid Leave of Absence Policy were also approved.
“We have unpaid leave of absence for those life-changing catastrophic events. Just working with our employees if situations arise. We are here to help them through those.”
In late April, the Newton School Board and the teachers union reached an agreement on an overall 3.22% package increase for the district’s teachers for the upcoming school year. It includes a 2.86% increase in pay.
The 2025-2026 school year begins in Newton on Monday, August 25th.
