Traffic and parking by Newton’s new splash pad will be among the topics Newton City Council members discuss during this evening’s regular council meeting. The police department says the opening of the splash pad this summer has created heavier vehicle and pedestrian traffic. In addition, there’s interest in allowing food trucks to park along the north side of the splash pad, along North 3rd Avenue West. These factors have created a request from some citizens to add stop signs for northern and southbound traffic on West 3rd Street North at North 3rd Avenue West. Newton City Administrator Matt Muckler says the City’s Traffic Safety Committee has not had an opportunity to review the request. There’s also a proposal to eliminate one parking space on the east side of West Third Street North and one parking space on the south side of North 3rd Avenue West.
Tonight’s Newton City Council meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.
