For the second straight night, the Simpson men’s soccer team battled to a hard fought draw, blanking Illinois College 0-0.

Nate Hersom got his second straight start in net, and posted his first clean sheet of the young season. The junior saw 11 shots on the night, with eight finding the goal but Hersom collected all eight to lead the Storm’s defense. The back-to-back draws to open the year marks the first time in program history since 1996.

The Simpson women’s soccer team outshot Millikin 16-4 but was unable to find the finishing touch, settling for a scoreless draw in their second game of the season.

Meredith Downs posted her first shutout of the season, making three saves in goal for the Storm (1-0-1). On the other end, Ally Hoffa led the Simpson attack with six shots, while Abby Bell added three attempts, including one on target. Mya Jansen and Avery Plathe each recorded a pair of shots on frame.
