The Pella Christian volleyball team opened Little Hawkeye Conference play with their first sweep over Oskaloosa since 2017 on Tuesday night.
The contest started off as a back and forth match between the two schools, with the Indians holding a 20-19 advantage late in the first set, but the Eagles closed on a 6-1 run to take the set 25-21. The second set continued that theme, as the two teams traded points until the score was knotted up at 15-15. From that point on it was all Pella Christian in the set, as they went on a 10-1 run to close out a 25-16 win to pull within a set of the sweep. The third set followed a similar pattern, with the Eagles holding an 11-9 advantage midway through the final set, before closing out the match on a 14-5 run to improve to 2-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play on the season.
Junior Brynn Runner led a balanced Pella Christian offensive attack in the win, posting a team-high 16 assists and tying for a team-leading eight kills. Brynn Roozeboom also recorded eight kills and seven digs in the victory, while Mya Huisman, Rachel Kacmarynski, and Addie Van Arendonk each had four kills on the night. The Eagles recorded 10 service aces in the win, with Kacmarynski and Van Arendonk each recording three and Huisman and Roozeboom each posting two.
Pella Christian will look to build on Tuesday’s momentum in their first two home matches of the season on Thursday, when they host Pleasantville and Davis County for a triangular at 5:30 pm.
