The Indianola football team held the Carlisle Wildcats to just one field goal in their 13-3 defensive dominant win Friday night heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
The Indians and Wildcats traded fumbles in the first quarter with neither team putting up any points, but the Indians struck first in the second quarter on an Asher Brueck to Rylan Hilton 18-yard strike to lead 7-0, which held until halftime. The Wildcats started the second half with a near 6-minute drive that got deep inside Indianola territory, but were forced to settle for the three points and Indianola scored on the second play of their drive on a 65-yard bomb from Brueck to Max Martinez to lead 13-3. Carlisle would have multiple drives to try and cut the deficit to a one score game, but the Indians forced a turnover on downs halfway through the fourth and ran out the clock for the win.
Head coach Eric Kluver said it truly was a team win.
“They are playing well right now. Very few teams hold a team like Carlisle to three points, you can ask Newton that from a week ago. Excellent effort. We just have to continue to build on this and get better. I like our guys, I like our locker room. Their work habits and all of that stuff. We just have to stay locked in and build that momentum, because that’s what we need.”
Brueck rushed for 90 yards and threw for 193 and two scores to lead the way. Indianola is now 2-0 on the season, and they will host Cedar Rapids Jefferson next week.
