
A couple of milestones and a 2-0 start in South Central Conference play had the Knoxville Volleyball Squad the EBF Rockets on the launch pad Tuesday night. Knoxville led for most of the match and won 25-20, 25-19, 25-22, netting Coach Mollie Keitges her 200th career win at Knoxville. Knoxville benefitted from 16 service errors by the Rockets and many more hitting errors as well. One night after winning the conference tennis doubles championship, Jordyn Counts put down ten kills and was 15/16 serving with an ace, Siena Scott had six kills and three blocks. Abbie Keitges was perfect in nine serve attempts with two aces and 12 digs, while Addy Dunkin had 23 assists, which was good enough to reach 1,000 for her career making her the second Panther to reach 1,000 in a category. Keitges reached 1,000 career digs last week. Knoxville is now 10-6 and will travel to Clarke next Tuesday.
Meanwhile Knoxville’s Isaac Rankin continued to do Isaac Rankin things winning his 4th meet in as many attempts at the Grinnell Invitational on Tuesday. Rankin put down a time of 16:12, :09 ahead of 2nd place. Connor Schultz was 9th in a time of 17:25. As a team the Panthers placed 4th, just eight points out of 3rd and 11 away from the runner-up spot. For the girls, they placed 6th as a team, barely getting edged out by Benton Community by two points. Nicole Schultz led Knoxville over the line in 21st with a time of 23:15. Coach Michael Splavec told KNIA/KRLS Sports the girls did a good job of pack running, and the boys are showing signs of improvement from the 4th runner on down. Knoxville will run at the Oskaloosa Invitational next Tuesday.
