trails-repaired

Repairs that recently closed portions of the Chichaqua Valley Trail in northwestern Jasper County have been completed. The Jasper County Conservation Department says crews filled cracks on the trail from North 63rd Avenue east of Mingo, south to Valeria. That section of the trail has reopened for bicyclists and walkers. The Chichaqua Valley Trail is a 26-mile paved recreational trail that runs on a historic abandoned railroad line from Berwick in Polk County to Baxter in Jasper County. It’s designed for cyclists, hikers, runners, and cross-country skiers. The trail features diverse scenery that includes farmland, meadows, forests, small towns, and the Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt, which is known for its wildlife and birdwatching opportunities.
