Early next month, Jasper County RSVP will begin a new free program for Seniors called Connection Calls. Jasper County RSVP Grant Manager and Director Sara Patterson says trained volunteers will be making social phone calls once a week to seniors 55 and older, for eight weeks.
“Just a friendly call, a check-in, a conversation. On the backside of it, it is a wellness check to see if they have had any health problems. But really it’s just placing that social call. That’s why we are calling it ‘Connection Calls’.”
Patterson says 14 volunteers have already committed to the program and about a dozen seniors are signed up. She hopes many more will sign up before the program starts October 6th. There are two additional training sessions for volunteers coming up. They take less than an hour, and will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 1st and 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 3rd.
