The Pella Christian girls tennis team earned a hard-fought 5-2 road win at North Polk on Wednesday to advance to the Class 1A Region 8 Finals.

The Eagles took a 4-2 lead over the Comets in singles play, picking up three of those victories in super-tiebreakers, before closing out the match with the lone match scored in doubles play. Kate Braafhart secured the lone two-set singles victory, defeating her opponent 6-4, 6-2 at #5. After dropping her first set 1-6, Trinley Gibson battled back to win the second set 6-3, before taking the super-tiebreaker 10-8 at #2. Lexi Branderhorst won her first set 6-2 at #3, then after falling in the second set 3-6, also bounced back to win the third set 10-8. In the final singles match at #6, Elsa Breems fell in the first set 5-7, but rallied to win the next two sets 6-4, 10-3 to give Pella Christian the 4-2 advantage. Needing just one win in doubles play to advance in the tournament, Braafhart and Breems got the job done at #3, securing a 6-3, 6-3 victory.

Pella Christian improved to 9-2 overall on the season with the win and will now look to knock off the reigning Class 1A State Champions in Cedar Rapids Xavier Saturday at 10 am at Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids.
