Construction progress continues at the Residences of Veterans Park senior housing development.
According to an update given by the project contractor, last week marked significant progress on the project. They successfully installed six inches of gravel on the building pad and brought it to grade, establishing a solid foundation for the structure. Extensive excavation was completed for the spread footings throughout the building, crucial for ensuring structural integrity. Additionally, under-slab termite control was conducted to safeguard the property against potential pest issues. All vapor barriers and concrete reinforcement have been installed, ensuring compliance with best practices for moisture control and structural support. They also completed the concrete pour for the building pad and performed the saw cutting on the same day, allowing us to maintain momentum on the project.
This project is Overland’s first Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) development in Iowa. The Residence at Veterans Park is part of the expansive Veterans District, a 152-acre transformation of the former VA Hospital campus into a diverse housing community. Featuring 48 units (39 one-bedroom and 9 two-bedroom apartments), this building will include amenities such as an onsite leasing office, community room, fitness center, and dog walking park.
Also on this block will be a Hugerich Holdings LLC apartment building, with market rate apartments and townhouses.
