newton-cardinals

The Newton Colfax-Mingo Pella Aquagirls and the Newton Volleyball team are both competing tonight. The Aquagirls are participating in a triangular with Oskaloosa and Perry at Perry, while the Cardinal volleyball team hosts Oskaloosa.

The Aquagirls defeated Oskaloosa in a dual two weeks ago in Newton 110-50, with the Aquagirls winning nine of the ten events. Perry is 3-7 this season with two wins over Indianola and a victory over Atlantic. The Aquagirls placed ahead of Indianola at the Grinnell Swim Meet earlier this month, and are coming off a sixth-place finish in an eight-team field Saturday in the Tiger Tankers Invitational at Valley High School. The Aquagirls produced eight top five finishes, but failed to win an event. The swim meet in Perry begins at 6:30 p.m.

The Cardinal volleyball team is 6-9, and has lost their last six matches. Newton’s last win was a 2-1 set victory at Grandview Christian on September 4th. Morgan Frehse currently leads the team in kills with 128, Isabelle Rawlins is the assist leader at 279, and Carmyn Klein is the team leader in digs with 83. The Indians will be bringing a 4-16 record to Newton High School for a match that will start at 7:15 p.m.
