The Newton Volleyball team picked up their first win since September 4th Tuesday, while the Newton Colfax-Mingo Pella Aquagirls defeated Perry in Perry.

The Cardinal volleyball squad defeated Oskaloosa at home in three straight sets 25-14, 25-17, and 28-26. Senior Addie Ratcliff came up with the key block in the final set.

“It felt so good to get the block at the end and end it. It was like time just stopped a little bit right there. It felt great.”

That was one of two blocks Ratcliff had in the match. She also had eleven kills in sixteen attempts. Morgan Frehse had fifteen kills on 29 attempts, three aces, and seven digs. Isabelle Rawlins had 41 of the team’s 42 assists, ten digs, five kills, and four aces. The Newton volleyball team is now 7-9, and will host the Cardinal Invitational Saturday.

The Newton Colfax-Mingo Pella Aquagirls took first place in several individual and relay events at Perry in an 88-74 win. First place finishes included Harper Barton in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.67) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.02), Alexa Van Maanen in the 200-yard individual medley (2:37.43), Tori White in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.41) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.84), the 200-yard freestyle relay with Harper and Temple Barton, Julia Nedder, and Van Maanen (1:51.34), and the 400-yard freestyle relay with the Barton’s, White, and Kimberlee Miller (4:00.55).

The Aquagirls have now won four duals in a row, and will host Des Moines Lincoln Thursday.
