Simpson College Athletics unveiled newly resurfaced tennis courts this fall, providing an enhanced home facility for both the men’s and women’s programs.

The project was made possible in part by a $47,000 grant from the United States Tennis Association (USTA), with support coming from USTA National ($44,000), USTA Missouri Valley ($2,500), and USTA Iowa District ($500). Director of Tennis Nicole Berger applied for the grant, which was awarded to strengthen Simpson’s facilities and support the continued growth of the sport.

Simpson’s resurfaced facility aligns with USTA’s nationwide push to expand the sport. Earlier this year, USTA announced that 24.7 million Americans played tennis in 2024, a new record. To support this momentum, the organization pledged $10 million in facility improvements across the country, including grants for new construction, refurbishments, and lighting projects.

As part of Simpson’s grant commitment, the program will also play an expanded role in growing the game locally. Courts 4-6 now feature age-appropriate lines designed for players ages 5-11, making it easier for children to learn tennis with the right equipment and court size. Beginning next summer, Simpson will partner with Indianola Parks and Recreation to offer additional youth clinics and lessons.
