The Newton Cardinal football team hits the road tonight to play 5-0 Pella, in a game in which the winner will retain at least a share of the district lead.

Newton’s Offense is averaging over 40 points per game, and is led by Quarterback Caden Klein with ten touchdown passes and six rushing touchdowns. Running back Isaiah Hansen has eleven touchdown runs, and wide receiver Finn Martin has seven touchdown catches. Newton head football coach Andy Swedenhjelm says trusting that talent will be a key.

“As long as we take care of ourselves, clean up our mistakes, play free and have fun, we are going to be pretty good I think.”

The Dutch offense is averaging roughly 20 points per game, and defensively are allowing just under six points per game. Quarterback Michael Manning has thrown seven touchdown passes, while Emmanuel Diers is their leading rusher with nearly a 6-yard per carry average and five touchdowns. The Cardinals have won two of the last three games against Pella, and all three were decided by seven points or less.

Kick-off for the Newton Cardinals and the Dutch in Pella is at 7 p.m., and pregame coverage on the KRLS3 stream begins at 6:30 p.m.
