A Fire Prevention Week open house was held at the Knoxville Fire Station on Wednesday.

Community members came out to the event which included a chili dinner, fire prevention trailer, kids inflatables, equipment and vehicles on display, and at 6:30 there was a live fire demonstration to show the importance of home fire sprinklers. Both sides of the trailer were lit with one side having an in-home sprinkler system so attendees could see how much less damage was done.

The theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week is “Charge into Fire Safety” which works to educate everyone about using batteries safely. The theme from the National Fire Protection Agency stresses how important it is to buy, charge, and recycle safely when it comes to lithium-ion batteries. Knoxville Fire Chief Cal Wyman says this annual event is a good way to educate the community about fire safety.

“It’s just a good night for them to come out, for everybody to learn fire safety, practice fire safety, and see some of the different technologies that are out there for fire safety.”

Many other fire departments in the county and across the country have held events this week in honor of Fire Prevention Week.
