The search for the next person who will be President of Des Moines Area Community College, including the Newton Campus, is being altered. The college announced this week that the on-campus interviews with the finalist candidates from the presidential search have been postponed, because two of the three candidates chosen by the search committee suddenly withdrew their names from consideration.

Kevin Halterman is the president of the DMACC Board of Directors and chair of the presidential search committee. He says the committee feels good about the quality of the third candidate, but also has reservations about bringing only one finalist to campus. For a job as complex and desirable as this one, Halterman believes the DMACC community deserves to hear from multiple candidates about their vision and leadership styles.

The DMACC Board of Directors will discuss the status of the presidential search and the next steps to be taken at its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday. The Board will also consider its options for a potential interim presidency following President Rob Denson’s retirement on December 30.
