The Pella volleyball team secured at least a share of the Little Hawkeye Conference Title Monday night, sweeping Pella Christian in the Tulip City Showdown.

The contest between the two crosstown rivals was tight throughout all three sets of the match, but the Dutch pulled away for the Eagles in all of them to secure the 25-16, 25-16, 25-19 victory. Pella Setter Julia Settles is happy with how the team played coming off of a busy weekend and against their crosstown rivals — many of whom she’s been a teammate with in the past.

“I just treated it like another game,I wasn’t coming in with nerves or anything. I don’t even look at faces or whoever is over there, but it’s pretty special. At the end we high five each other and I’ll hug them and stuff and we’re still friends, but on the court, obviously, gotta get the job done.”

Pella Christian was led offensively in the contest by Brynn Roozeboom and Addie Van Arendonk, who had eight and seven kills respectively. Brynn Runner dished out 22 assists for the Eagles, while Sophia Slagter had three blocks and Van Arendonk posted 13 digs.

The Dutch improved to 27-10 overall with the win, and will wrap up regular season play on Thursday at the Urbandale triangular at 5 pm. The Eagles fell to 11-14 overall on the year, and they end the regular season on Saturday with the Knoxville Invitational.
