The Norwalk boys golf team finished in 9th place at the Class 4A State Tournament at Hyperion Field Club in Johnston on Tuesday, while Indianola’s Hayden Stockberger tied for 52nd place individually. 

The Warriors finished with a second-day score of 310 and a total score of 633, which put them just one stroke behind eighth-place Cedar Rapids Xavier. Junior Tillman Papcun led the way on day two for Norwalk, shooting a 72, which was nine strokes better than his first round and good enough to tie him at 15th place with a total score of 153. Head Coach Steve Wermerskirchen specifically complimented his ball striking in his second round. Following Papcun was senior Ian Lux, who ended the tournament tied for 29th place with a total score of 157. Seniors Parker Cary and Lane Juergens finished tied for 52nd and tied for 66th with total scores of 161 and 165, respectively. Junior Dayton Poen tied for 71st place with a score of 169, and sophomore Kota Bentz claimed 78th place with a score of 177. Coach Wermerskirchen also noted that Norwalk had one of the best team rounds for the tournament’s second day and is especially proud of how the seniors played.

Indianola’s individual qualifier, senior Hayden Stockberger, finished day two with a 78, totaling his two-day score at 161 and tying him in 52nd place in the meet.
