The Newton Colfax-Mingo Pella Aquagirls won their home triangular Tuesday while the Newton volleyball team lost in three straight sets to Class 4A #4 Dallas Center-Grimes on senior night.

The Aquagirls defeated Carroll 106-60 and Boone 90.5-77.5. Senior Harper Barton set a new school record in the 50-meter freestyle, winning the event in 27.11. That time broke Samantha Hedrick’s record of 27.54 set in 2015. Barton also won the 100-meter breaststroke (1:16.67), was on the winning 400-meter relay with Temple Barton, Reid McCloud, and Tori White (1:55.38), and placed second with the same team members in the 400-meter freestyle relay (4:16.89). Temple Barton was second in the 200-meter freestyle (2:21.27) and the 100-meter freestyle (1:07.07). McCloud won the 400-meter freestyle (4:50.89) and placed second in the 50-meter freestyle (30.59). White won the 200-meter individual medley (2:02.64) and the 100-meter backstroke (1:11.53). Julia Nedder took first in the 100-meter butterfly (1:19.74), and teamed with Alexa Van Maanen, Kimberlee Miller, and Emalee Weuve to win the 200-meter medley relay (2:21.47). Van Maanen also finished second in the 200-meter individual medley (2:53.25). The Newton Colfax-Mingo Pella Aquagirls next travel to Indianola for the Little Hawkeye Conference Invitational on Tuesday.

The Cardinals volleyball team struggled against the ranked Dallas Center-Grimes squad, falling in three sets 25-5, 25-15, 25-13. It was senior night for Newton and senior Isabelle Rawlins had 16 assists and three digs in her final home match for the Cardinals. Additionally, seniors Emersyn Gross and Addie Ratcliff both contributed four kills, Sophie Greer had five digs, Olivia Bell posted two aces and two digs, Faith Roffey had three digs, and Merissa Schiebel had three digs and two aces. The Newton volleyball team is now 10-12 on the fall, and will wrap up regular season play with a triangular at Southeast Warren High School in Liberty Center on Thursday.
