For the second time this season, the Highway 163 Rivalry will be renewed between the Pella Christian and PCM football teams tonight, this time in Monroe.
The Eagles and Mustangs previously met on September 19th in Pella, with PCM winning the district opener 58-27. Since that game, Pella Christian has gone 3-2 in their last five contests, while the Mustangs have gone 5-0. Despite entering tonight’s contest with the most recent win in the series between the two schools, PCM head coach Greg Bonnett knows his team needs to be ready for another battle against the Eagles.
“I feel like they’re a better team now, and I think they’re playing very confident football. Being down by 20+ and coming back to beat a Clarinda team, that says something about their grit right there. So, we’re gonna have to come out and match their enthusiasm, match their determination, and make sure that we’re taking quality reps, because this is a team that if you take them lightly you’re going to get beat.”
Pella Christian head coach Rich Kacmarynski said that they know they will have to be at their best tonight to avenge that early season loss.
“We’re bracing for a four quarter battle, and they’re a team that we’ve got to stop them before they get started, because once they get rolling they’re really tough. So, I think that’s true in every phase of the game. So, we’ve got to be sharp. This is one of those games where we got to play our best football, literally, every play of the game, but I think we showed in the second half of the Clarinda game that we’re capable of that.”
Coverage of the rematch between the Eagles and Mustangs tonight can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS, beginning with the Jersey Freeze Ice Cream Radio Pregame show at 6:30 pm.
