The local Henry Knox chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will hold a free workshop in Knoxville on Saturday.

This event will be at 10:00 am in the Weiler Room of the Knoxville Public Library and will be a way to learn more information about DAR. This is an event open to current DAR members and those interested in the organization. Speaker Erin Mullins will discuss information on officers, committees, how to navigate the website, how to volunteer, the classes DAR offers, and more.

The DAR has a priority of fostering community engagement and making a difference in the areas of education and patriotism, and education. Within these categories, there are 50 subcommittees where volunteers can get involved. To be a member, your lineage needs to be traced to someone who was involved in the American Revolution as a patriot. Anna Humeston with the Henry Knox chapter says there is a genealogist who can help figure this out, and there are many chances that you can qualify.

“I have a few people tell me that they really don’t think they qualify well if you go back ten generations from 1776, you have 1,024 chances to discover a Revolutionary Patriot in your family history; that’s a lot of people.”
