A Newton man accused of throwing a bloody washcloth at a deputy has been given a seven-day jail term with another 83-days in jail suspended. Court records show 53-year-old Aaron Christopher Hesson pleaded guilty to a reduced aggravated misdemeanor charge of assault on a person in certain occupations. He was originally charged with assault by an inmate with bodily fluids, which is a class D felony. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department says the offense occurred in November of last year.
On Tuesday, Associate Judge Steven Holwerda imposed Hesson’s sentence in Jasper County District court. He delayed the Newton man’s jail time until May 15th, and ordered Hesson to pay an $855 fine and serve one year of probation.
