The Newton boys tennis and soccer teams play on Monday. The tennis team will be in Pella to face the Dutch and Waverly-Shellrock, while the soccer team hosts Knoxville.
The Cardinals’ boys tennis team is 2-2 in duals this season, and lost to Grinnell 3-8 on Tuesday. Head coach Jared Gerber says Pella and Waverly-Shellrock will provide a strong test for his young and improving players.
“Pella is always really good. Waverly-Shellrock is probably a top five team in the state. I think we played pretty well against Grinnell, and I think these last few days of practice we have actually got quite a bit better at things we made mistakes on at crucial points in Grinnell. So I am hopeful we can stay with them.”
Newton will take on Pella at 9 a.m. Monday and Waverly-Shellrock at 12 p.m.
The Cardinals’ boys soccer team is 2-9 following a 2-1 loss at Grinnell on Friday. In eleven games, Newton has 13 goals. The Panthers are 3-3-2, and have 14 goals in their eight games. The Cardinals and Knoxville will play at 7:30 P.M.
