During a policy and planning work session on Tuesday, the Pella City Council will discuss a possible urban renewal plan at Central College. The proposal would allow Central to redevelop portions of its campus to support rental housing needs in the broader community. It is meant to align with the Imagine More concept, which involves removing buildings that have exceeded their useful life and replacing them with spaces dedicated to rental housing and commercial development. The proposal from Central includes up to 1,350 rental units over the next 20 years and 120,000 square feet of commercial land. The urban renewal plan also outlines nearly $23 million in road improvements, which would leverage tax increment financing over time. No formal action is scheduled at this meeting. The Pella City Council meeting is at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Pella Public Safety Complex.
