The public is invited to attend an Open House and Dedication this evening for the first Jasper County Habitat for Humanity Home constructed in Newton for several years. The three-bedroom home at 501 South 2nd Avenue West is being purchased by a woman named Cassidy, who is an amputee that has undergone over 20 surgeries, and has a pre-teenaged son and daughter. Community Partnership Coordinator for Jasper County Habitat for Humanity Becca Decker says Cassidy is closing on the house, and will have an affordable mortgage after satisfying all the organization’s requirements.

“You have to qualify income wise, and your mortgage is never more than 30% of your income. We do require 200 hours of sweat equity in the home, and there are different construction and finance classes that you have to attend before you can close on your home.”

The Open House at 501 South 2nd Avenue West in Newton is from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. this evening, with the Dedication scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
