The PCM baseball team defeated West Marshall at home on Monday night in their season opener as the soccer team beat Clarke in their first game of substate play.

The Mustang baseball team led 5-0 heading into the sixth inning against the Trojans anchored by a lights out performance by starting pitcher Roston McCarty through five innings. In the sixth inning McCarty gave up a solo home run as the Trojans got on the board. West Marshall would continue chipping away at their deficit with two more runs off errors. The Trojans would add another run in the seventh off pitcher Jensson Hood but the Mustangs would ultimately strand the bases loaded and hang on for a 5-4 win. McCarty got the win on the mound pitching 5 ⅔ innings and recording seven strikeouts. McCarty also was strong at the plate going 2-3 with a double and two runs. Hood, Abe Kiernan, and Rylan Fridley also recorded hits in the contest while Izaac Bagby had two RBI and Bode Blackburn had one. PCM starts their season 1-0 and will next compete next Tuesday at Pella Christian.

The Mustang soccer team defeated Clarke 2-0 in their opening game of Class 2A Substate 7 postseason play. PCM had goals from Jax Strait and Ben Mueller in the contest. PCM will now advance to the next round in postseason play against Grinnell next Wednesday.
