A Marshalltown man has pleaded guilty to two counts of forgery in a case involving a Kellogg couple. The Jasper County Sheriff Department says Ronald Lewis Hinders Jr. stole blank checks from the couple’s mailbox, and then forged two of the checks for cash on November 4th of last year. The checks were presented at two separate banks in Marshalltown, for $550 and $800. Court records state video from both banks show Hinders cashing the checks.
A sentencing hearing for the 48-year-old Marshalltown man is set for August 18th. Hinders’ guilty pleas to the two class D felony forgery charges are part of a plea agreement. Other charges that were filed against him include two aggravated misdemeanor counts of identity theft under $1,500, an aggravated misdemeanor charge of 3rd degree theft, and a serious misdemeanor 4th degree theft charge.
