The Central College volleyball team won the opening set of its season Tuesday against Bethel University (Minn.) before dropping the match 17-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-23.
The Dutch (0-1) recorded 16 kills on 36 attack attempts in the first set to take the early advantage. Central finished with 54 kills compared to just 39 for the Royals (1-0), but 28 attack errors dropped the team’s attack percentage to .177. Senior middle hitters Sophia Folkerts and Kaitlyn Mumm led the Dutch with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Alex McNab added nine more. Landry Pacha led the team with 20 assists and Grace Corey had 16 more. Libero Alexis Crowley had 14 digs and two service aces.
The Dutch make their home debut at 7 pm Friday against St. Catherine University (Minn.) in the Central-Grinnell Invitational.
