A Carlisle man is facing multiple charges following a reported domestic assault and subsequent drug investigation in mid-March.

According to court documents, 46-year-old Jason Richard Shipman of Carlisle is charged with domestic abuse assault, 3rd or Subsequent Offense, a Class D felony, along with multiple drug-related offenses.

According to the criminal complaint, officers with the Carlisle Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 1200 block of Hardin Drive at approximately 5:09 a.m. on March 14th. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a victim who reported being struck multiple times in the head with fists. The victim was found with an open cut on the forehead and chin and was also bleeding from the mouth. Authorities say Shipman had left the residence before their arrival. While searching the apartment, officers observed drug paraphernalia in plain sight, leading to a search warrant. Court records indicate that during the search, law enforcement located marijuana, cannabidiol, methamphetamine, and additional drug paraphernalia.

Shipman faces charges including possession of a controlled substance, second offense, possession of marijuana, and possession of cannabidiol, in addition to the domestic abuse assault.

Court records indicate Shipman has multiple prior domestic abuse assault convictions in Iowa, which contribute to the enhanced felony charge in this case. A no-contact order has been requested in connection with the incident.
