A full-scale active threat exercise involving over 100 first responders from five counties and five area hospitals is taking place today in southern Jasper County. Jasper County Emergency Management Agency Director Jamey Robinson says he’s been working on this simulated event in the Sully area for over a year, and the functional exercise for it occurred three to four months ago at the Newton DMACC Campus. Robinson told the Jasper County Board of Supervisors about the simulated event, during their regular meeting Tuesday.
“Mock car accidents, panic, chaos, all that good stuff. I wanted you to be aware because we are probably going to land a helicopter on T-33 for a mock vehicle accident at T-33 and F-62. Everything is done in real time. So we make real calls to 9-1-1.”
Robinson also thanked Co-Line Manufacturing south of Sully for shutting down their operations this afternoon so the exercise could be held. Many of their employees will serve as injured victims.
