The Pella Christian girls tennis team is set to kick off the fall sports season on Eagle Lane this week, and high numbers of participation has them excited to return to the courts.
The Eagles are coming off of a season in which they went 9-3 overall and finished in third place in the Little Hawkeye Conference. While Pella Christian had success on the court last year, they will fill five spots on their varsity squad this year. In working to replace the girls that departed the program after last season, the Eagles will have no shortage of options, with approximately 40 athletes out for the sport this fall. Head coach Danielle Stubbs says her and assistant coach Michael Turnley are excited to see so many girls want to be a part of the program.
“We love it. We’re thrilled. Coach Turnley and I love tennis. It’s a sport that we’ve both played for many years, and we’re thrilled that so many girls want to come out and play. Some more experienced girls, some beginners, and everything in between. We’re thrilled that they’re coming out to play tennis.”
The Eagles open the season on Thursday at home against Knoxville at 9 am.
