The Indianola baseball team shutout Des Moines Lincoln 11-0 Thursday night heard live on 94.3 KNIA. Junior George Blake hurled five scoreless innings and ended the game with a walk-off three-run home run to right field.
Indianola was held scoreless with only one hit in the first two frames. However in the third, Indianola began the third inning with a pair of walks followed by a single from Bo Blake. With bases loaded and nobody out, Zach Benge was able to drive in the two remaining base hitters with a ground-rule double to left to put Indianola ahead 3-0.
Benge scooted to third on a Railsplitters passed ball and was driven in on Asher Brueck’s sacrifice fly. Ahead 4-0, Indianola wasn’t done yet. Another pair of walks followed and Brady Merema drove in another run to eventually put Indianola ahead 7-0 after three.
Later in the fifth, Indianola needed three runs to end the game in five innings. Dallas Harlan led the inning off with a base hit, followed by a single from Bryant Ritchie that drove in Harlan. Ryker Burgin was hit by a pitch on the back after Brady Merema’s pop fly out.
George Blake stepped up with two runners on the basepaths and sent a line drive out of the ballpark for a three-run walk-off home run to win the game 11-0 in five innings. For Blake, it was his team-leading seventh home run of the season.
With the win, Indianola improves to 26-4 on the year and will host Southeast Polk for a doubleheader this afternoon scheduled for 12 and 2 p.m.
