A late rally powered the Pleasantville baseball team past Grand View Christian in the Class 2A Substate 5 semifinals Saturday night as the softball team came up short in the resumption of a suspended game.
The #1 ranked Trojan baseball team trailed 4-1 going into the bottom of the sixth inning and exploded for five runs to ultimately secure a 6-4 win. Easton Cox started on the mound pitching 3 ⅔ innings giving up three runs, no earned runs, on three hits and recorded nine strikeouts. Caylor Jones got the win in relief pitching 2 ⅓ inning giving up one run, two hits, and had four strikeouts. Braylon Bingham came in and got the save pitching the seventh inning.
Pleasantville had eight hits as a team with Brayden Kennedy going 2-3, Bingham going 1-3 with three RBI and Will Mesecher and Luke Vestal both had clutch RBI hits in the sixth inning. The Trojans now advance to the substate finals where they will take on Albia Tuesday night in Oskaloosa with a trip to state on the line.
The Trojan softball team started their semifinal game against Cardinal Friday night and fell down 1-0 before the game was suspended due to weather in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Comtes would tack on one more run when the game resumed Saturday and hold on for a 2-0 win. Lainey Kennedy pitched all seven innings giving up ten hits, two runs and had two strikeouts. The Trojans were only able to string together three hits as a team which came from Kally Wysong, Emerie Harsin, and Grace Rood. The Trojan softball team ends their season with an 18-12 overall record.
