The Newton boys golf team shot a 319 and took second place at the nine-team Williamsburg Invitational on Wednesday. The Cardinals finished 14 strokes behind the host school, as the Raiders won their own event.
Newton had all but one golfer in the top half of the 60-player field. Kellan Hartgers and Mason Smith both shot 77’s for sixth and seventh place. Jackson Price was 15th with an 82, while Ethan Pageler shot an 83 and finished 17th. Carter Forst was 21st with an 86, and Cole Freese was 31st with an 88.
The Cardinal boys golf team will compete today in the Grinnell Tournament, which begins at 1:00 p.m. at the Grinnell College Golf Course.
