The Newton boys soccer and golf teams were in action away from Newton on Friday.
The Cardinal boys soccer team defeated Boone in Boone 9-0. It was Newton’s second win of the season, and their second win in two days after beating Clarke 2-0 at H.A. Lynn Stadium on Thursday. In the first 40 minutes in Boone, Newton scored eight of their nine goals while recording their second consecutive shut-out. The Cardinals will go for three wins in a row on Monday when they host Southeast Polk.
On Day 1 of the Dutch Masters at Bos Landen Golf Course in Pella, Newton’s top four golfers completed the course in 320 strokes. North Polk currently leads with a score of 298. The Cardinals’ top golfers were Jackson Price with a 77, Mason Smith at 78, Kellan Hartges with an 81, and Cole Freese’s 84. Sixteen schools are competing at the Dutch Masters, with today’s action beginning at 9 a.m.
